Sorry for the lack of updates, July was a very busy month! Evan saw his first fireworks on July 4th and turned 1 on July 13th. We had a nice party for him July 12th at our house. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a few brave people swam in the cold pool. All of Evan’s Aunts, Uncles and cousins were able to attend along with friends, Grandparents and neighbors. Evan wasn’t very interested in the cake, but he loved his toys!
He went for his 12-month check up on July 22nd and he weighed in at 21 lbs, 6 oz and was 28 ¼ inches long. The doctor was pleased with his overall health and not at all concerned that he is still a bit “short” – only in the 5th percentile for height. Time will tell if he gets any of the height from my side of the family. He sure isn’t getting it from his average to short parents. LOL. Evan is in the 50th percentile for weight, so he’s doing great on that one.
Evan has really mastered crawling now and has progressed to pulling up on everything and cruising around the room. He has started to let go when standing up and leaning against the couch. He even stood for a few seconds unassisted before getting scared and sitting down.
This past weekend we took the little man for his first haircut. I got a little teary eyed, but he did so great! He didn’t seem to mind at all. I got to keep his little curls and I took a bunch of great pictures to commemorate the occasion.
On the baby proofing front, we are now starting to look into getting some new gates, especially for the stairs, as Evan is now a little stair climber too. He has made it as far as the 4th step on our stairwell before getting scared….not as scared as Mommy was to see him that high though! The problem is that we have a stairwell with one side that is open with a spindle railing, so we are going to have to modify the gates to attach to that instead of a wall. I’m thinking maybe my father or father-in-law could rig something up for us to make it work.
Next week I will be on vacation and my plan is to spend some time re-connecting with Paul, organizing all of Evan’s clothes, toys, etc and taking a few moments to relax for myself. I’m thinking pedicure, bubble baths and a good book perhaps? I definitely hope the weather is nice so I can finally get some use out of my pool…its been such an odd, cool summer. We also would like to take Evan to the zoo one of the days, maybe on Wednesday. I am sure he will love it.
Have a great week everyone!
